Counseling. Whether the patient needs counseling or family members — even children — need therapy, medical social workers ensure each person gets the help they need when they need it.
Emotional care. Medical social workers are known for their empathy, compassion, and keen sense of another person’s emotional state. Offering helpful guidance in a calm manner is an important part of hospice social work.
A voice. Many hospice patients — as well as their family members — simply want to be heard. Our hospice social workers are active listeners and strong advocates. We empower them to act based on what they hear from patients and families.
Information. Social workers are conduits to community support programs, financial planning services, resolution of insurance issues, medical assistance, wills, advance directives, and so much more.
Logistics. If you need help with transportation, medical equipment, or planning a funeral or celebration of life, your medical social worker can walk you through some options and connect you to the best service to meet those needs.
Spirituality. With understanding and cultural sensitivity, medical social workers help patients and family members with issues related to spirituality. To whatever degree the patient wishes, they can help you explore life’s deeper meaning and a higher sense of being.
