Volunteer spending time with elderly woman in hospice care

PEACE OF MIND

The Value of Company

Our trained team of hospice volunteers provides important types of support to patients. Often the most valuable service they offer family members is time. Time to handle life’s many demands. Time for planning. Time for other people and other priorities. Time for taking a deep breath and caring for your own needs.

If you have an appointment, need to run errands, or simply want to meet up with a friend, we can help by offering relief.. Traditions Health volunteers will spend time with your loved one to ensure they stay safe and have the pleasure of company while you’re away.

At Traditions Health, our volunteer coordinators work hard to match the right volunteer with your family. This effort ensures your loved one will spend time with someone who can mesh with their unique personality and meet the family’s personal needs.

RELIEF

The Work of Hospice Care Volunteers

Our volunteers are known for their kindness and selflessness. Ideally the volunteer can make a long-term commitment to visit with your loved one throughout their time in hospice.

Here are some of the ways our volunteers can spend time with your loved one:

  • Discuss topics of interest to the patient
  • Learn about and express a patient’s gratitude to other caregivers
  • Listen to the patient’s life stories and concerns
  • Just sit quietly with patients to prevent feelings of isolation
  • Play cards or other games
  • Read aloud to the patient
  • Sing or pray together, if desired
  • Take walks together
  • Write notes or letters for the patient
